Shocking Illustrations Criticizing Our Society [NSFW]

Every day in our lives we are bombarded with news and information that pertains to our society by addressing various subjects such as politics, religion, violence, sexuality, behavior, among others.

Luis Quiles is an illustrator and he sarcastically criticizes the society on these issues and makes his art a way of expressing the most different kinds of emotions: sadness, anxiety, ambition, power, display, anger, happiness, pain and so on…

The result could not be better! Take a look.

am i the only one thoroughly confused by the naruto one?

    • Unertc Lasi

I like naruto but the way he used naruto is actually wrong, akatsuki are not the wrong people naruto and the others are actually. i am for the plan of madara but nvm, he used here akatsuki as prono industry and the genjutsu coming out from the vagina…

      • Marquis

Why is Naruto one of the wrong people? He is the protagonist after all, or is he?

      • Nick

If you side with Naruto, you have to agree to fight for your ideals, being Madara is the easy way out. Let a few control the beaty for all, so less “bad” things happen? If you honestly side with Akatsuki you should reconsider your philosophy.

Vaginal genjutsu – it means that pussy is controlling the minds of men.

Not sure about the 13th and it should’ve probably not been there, as people won’t notice the others and make a fuss over it…but the one with a fat slob who wants a perfect babe to be his slave…sounds like today, alright.

What’s so shocking about all this?

  • Matt Sowersbry

    It’s very literal…for metaphor

  • J. Camaron Rogers

“I’m trying so hard to be shocking, and my ‘messages’ are so heavy-handed and obvious! Look how edgy I am!”

    • Zak

“My comment is so edgy and heavy handed look how edgy I am!” Seriously dude get a life. Do you make art or are you just a fag critic.

      • Jesse Andrew Clarke

As though only people who make art can judge it. What a shit. This stuff is kindergarten-level, bro, stop complaining about complaints.

      • Steve Mattos

We’ve had SO many years of context free, subtext free, substance free abstract “art” from which the viewer is intended to derive meaning, I think it’s excellent to see someone produce something legitimately thoughtful rather than just a bunch of shit squiggles and then nodding yes when someone comes along and says how meaningful the squiggles are.

I’ll grant that the meanings are obvious here but at least there’s discernible meaning. J. Rogers’, I suspect, is maybe experiencing a little sour grapes attitude from exposure to the horde of pretentious shit heads in the art world…the problem is people tend to confuse the message and the messenger. I think a better criticism from Zak would be for him to ask J Rogers to criticize the art itself rather than the artist.

      • J. Camaron Rogers

I absolutely love it when mental midgets like yourself use the “get a life” line. It really is hilarious.

    • Katie Knouse

Everytime there is anything even mildly grisly there’s that guy that spews the ever popular “edgy” phrase. And yeah, the message is more obvious in these pictures, it’s the centerfold instead of another picture that would be more cryptic. Just cause one picture might require you to stare longer to understand it doesn’t make it better. Go back to college. And for that matter, how is he trying “so hard” to be shocking? If you’re so smart you’d describe it.

      • J. Camaron Rogers

He’s actually an excellent artist, I just think the message is heavy-handed and obviously trying too hard to pander to hipster idiots with no depth of thought. I’m not saying that other things with more obscure messages are arbitrarily “better” I’m just saying maybe you don’t need to smack people in the face with your message. Yes, we get it, capitalism is evil and humans are hypocrites. How very clever of you. But it’s so blatant that he might as well have just written the text as I have: “Capitalism is evil.” and that would be that. Instead of making you *think* about it, he just tells you. It’s boring, and frankly it’s insulting to my intelligence and that of every other viewer.

      • Katie Knouse

Yeah, he is literal about what he shows in the pictures, you don’t have to go too far to realize the meaning of the pictures at all. I get that, but some folks just choose to take that avenue in sending a message through their art. Doesn’t make it shallow, when i think shallow i think about those folks that come up with a simple piece of garbage and then bedazzle it with a long winded meaning. This stuff, sure it smacks you in the face with everything at once; it was made to do that. But you shouldn’t find it insulting to your intelligence just for that reason. Just because it didn’t provoke one to think about it doesn’t mean it should insult anyone’s intelligence. I feel you on hipsters though, they would look at a picture of a tin sitting sideways in a black and white painting and if you gave them the time of day they’d come up with two million bogus reasons why that was deep. Shit, alot of them would look at this stuff and probably avoid it cause they don’t think it’s thought provoking enough and god help them if people don’t find them intellectual.

      • J. Camaron Rogers

You make some excellent points, and you may be right. It’s just not my particular cup of tea. It is art after all, subjective and all that.

      • Everett

I’d just like to take the time to appreciate the people in this particular conversation who actually just put forth their ideas and/or questioned another person’s ideas without the ad hominem fallacy of attacking the person. Thank you for your humanity. Please for the love of all things procreate so we can at least attempt at balancing the gene pool. Finally, on the subject of the art, I agree with both of you. Yes, it is definitely a smack in the face, which can be analysed two ways: It is thoughtless and a bit tacky, or it is intended to make that part of your conscience twinge and instead of thinking about what the message might be, you think about the message’s meaning and how the world is slowly disintegrating and hopefully how you might help change that. We must also take into account that there are some out there that could not decipher anything more cryptic, no matter how long they had to stare at it. It could be the obviousness of the message was intended to hit all targets, as it is something everyone should consciously be aware of and actively attempting to correct. Thank you, and good night.

I don’t really see what is so “heavy handed” blah blah blah…..You can go out into this big world and actually SEE all this stuff. It’s not being hidden, I live in Denver, know fuck-all about ‘art’ and it’s meaning. But I can say this, I go downtown (38th and Broadway) any day of the week and you can see half of these concepts playing out right in front of you. Just because you see smiles instead of shark heads means nothing. Good for anything that makes anyone see our, Us, humankinds many, many flaws. If only one matchstick gets it and lights up…..well the rest clustered around?…..then it’s done it’s job. WE SQUABBLE OVER THE SCRAPS PEOPLE!! I recommend perspective, go to your local homeless shelter (only have to drive by, not stop or make a difference) and I Guarantee you will feel better about your little life that seemed so fucked up just a bit ago. Try it:) Peace all and realize we ARE not Different! we are brothers, sisters, no matter the differences. we just fight ourselves….and that war cant end any way other than with a final act. You don’t need to love everyone, just acknowledge everyone with respect as I am not better than you, nor you than me. Btw # 15 is the one that really caught me lol! now THAT’s typical
